"Not All Who Wander Are Lost"

I am an eternal optimist. You shall never extinguish my light, for its fuel is found in the  humanity of this world. 

I am an Illinois native and a recently returned expat after 8 years abroad. I love any opportunity to tell you about UNESCO World Heritage and am a HUGE travel enthusiast. I am also a sister to 5 siblings that keep me on my toes constantly. It’s a beautiful thing!

I’ve settled in a sweet, sleepy Southern Wisconsin town for now, and I keep myself busy helping manage a craft beer and wine bar (a personal passion of mine), singing any chance I get with my friend and acoustic music mate in A Tad of Sarahcha , and getting involved on the Heritage Preservation Committee in the community. I still work to promote the importance of the World’s cultural heritage, and still support the amazing organization, LoveItaly! in Rome, an innovative crowdfunding platform for Italy’s amazing heritage. Life is pretty slow! Haha 😉  When I’m not doing any of that, I’m either traveling, writing, researching, painting, or partaking in some kind of social activity with friends and family.  Who says we have to pick one passion in life? I don’t buy it.

On this blog though, I simply want to talk with you about the things that I have learned and search to know about the world. I want this space to be a place of discussion about life and the beauty that is in it—from people and art, to places and food. Now more than anything, we need more love, understanding, hope, and compassion in this world. I want you to begin to believe, as I do, that anything is possible. I want to show you the hope in humanity I see, that all is not lost. I want you, too, to become a hopeful wanderer.

Travel, Transitions, and Taking It Slow

I find myself writing my first blog post in many months in a new year. I took a long hiatus from A Hopeful Wander apart from frequent Instagram shots — not because I was tired of it — but because this past year of 2016 was a 365-day roller coaster that required both of my hands to hold on.

And I thought 2015 was meant for transitions. HAH. As it always does, life finds a way of laughing in my face and saying ‘Just kidding!’ So amid moving home, moving back to Europe, and then moving home again to an entirely new state and house by September, my head was spinning, and I wasn’t sure how to make it stop.

Transitions can kick you right in the hoohah.

I’m telling you they can be brutal. I had some of my best and worst life moments in 2016. Complete 180s. I kid you not.
